Dance! To Your Hearts Delight1 entertained both young and old again this holiday season with its 19th
annual production of this timeless ballet. Dozens of ballerinas and dance
students of all ages delighted patrons in this timeless ballet at the beautiful Downey
Theatre on December 2-3, 2023.
Set to Tchaikovsky's timeless score, The
Nutcracker tells the story of a girl named Clara whose adventure begins when
she is given a toy Nutcracker as a Christmas gift from her mysterious Uncle
Drosselmeyer during the Stahlbahm's annual family Christmas Eve party.
Uncle Drosselmeyer entertains the guests with live dancing dolls and his
eccentric ways. Later that night, after the guests depart, Clara falls asleep
and dreams of a grand adventure that begins with her Nutcracker coming to
life and engaging in an epic battle between mice and toys, continues with her
Nutcracker becoming a handsome prince, and comes to a climax with a magical
journey to the Kingdom of Sweets to meet the Sugar Plum Fairy.
In the Kingdom of Sweets, the Sugar Plum
Fairy honors Clara with a celebration of dances. From near and far,
marvelous characters come to entertain her with Spanish, Arabian, Russian,
Chinese, Mirlitons and Waltz of the Flowers dances. When Clara thinks she has
seen everything beautiful in the land, the Sugar Plum Fairy dances with her
Cavalier. Soon the Land of Sweets begins to get hazy and Clara opens
her eyes to find herself in her parents' house, wondering if it was all a
dream...

1 Dance! To Your Heart's Delight is Tustin Dance Center's 501(c)3 non-profit
organization. Our non-profit was established to advance the arts within our
studio and in the greater Tustin community. The proceeds from all Nutcracker
performances, the Sugar Plum Fairy Tea Party, the Nutcracker boutique,
concessions, fundraisers, and donations are directed into the non-profit and
used to fund the production of the event each year.

Dance! To Your Heart's Delight (DTYHD) performed its 19th
annual Nutcracker Ballet on Saturday, December 1 - 3, 2023 at the beautiful Downey
Civic Theatre.
DTYHD was please to again donate the entire December 1,
2023 performance to many underserved organizations in Orange and LA counties,
bringing the joy of the arts to individuals and families who might not otherwise
be exposed to the arts.

The Downey Civic Theatre is a 738-seat venue located in
the heart of Downtown Downey. The Downey Theatre strives to bring the best
entertainment and enhance the cultural and economic growth within the
community is perfect for staging our 18th annual Nutcracker Ballet.

The
Downey Theatre first opened its doors in 1970, built to house the success of
the Downey Children's Theatre under the direction of John Hume. While many
of the old theatre programs shut down in 1978, the theatre continues to
present the community with shows from the Downey Civic Light Opera, the
Downey Symphony, and other local cultural and dance companies.
Under
new management in 2011, the Downey Theatre began to once again host larger
acts as a performing arts venue, presenting concerts and shows of nationally
known artists.
Fun fact
about Downey Theatre... In March 1971, astronauts Alan Shephard, Edgar
Mitchell, and Stuart Roosa landed by helicopter in Downey and spoke at the
theater. It was a busy place. Everything from beauty pageants to opera to
marionettes have played there.

The Nutcracker
Ballet features professional
dancers for all principal roles, and dozens of Tustin Dance Centers most
talented dancers of all ages.
In this enchanting
ballet, featuring the famous score by Tchaikovsky, a young girl has a very
special Christmas. At a fun-filled family party with dancing, magic and dolls
that come to life, Clara receives a special gift: a Nutcracker. That night
she dreams of an epic battle between mice and toys, and a magical journey to
the Kingdom of Sweets, where Clara dances with her Prince and meets the
beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy.
